High-Performance Lifestyle is one where all of the above is true, but you’ve got an edge, and that edge is the proactive cultivation of extraordinary levels of energy when you need it most, providing mental clarity and a higher level of energy for your body brain to recover and heal faster and be super sharp.

No amount of motivation, financial incentives, coffee, working out intensity, or workaholism can ever outpace energy debt and fatigue, at least not for long; so, when it comes to human performance, your capacity to engage life fully without burning out and trading your health for success, harnessing your energy is the key to the kingdom, which is unlocking your true potential.

Why is that true?
To answer that question, you must understand what energy is and what it means to “harness” it. So, let’s start there.
Harness—means to control, manage, and make use of (natural resources), especially to produce energy.

One might think of harnessing a horse’s energy, where the use of the “harness” is well known to control the horse, or the “horsepower” of a car, where that very definition is harnessing power is evident as you glide down the road in your BMW.

But beyond the horse or the car are natural resources that were sourced, produced, and managed to give the horse and the car the power and function they needed for the outcomes you want.

Well, my friends, it’s no different for you personally. You need to harness the natural resources that give your body the energy or power to function and perform well as a human being.
But to do that, we need to break down the process of “harnessing” your life force energy even more.

  1. Source—ensure your body has the raw materials, like sunlight, for starters.
  2. Produce—give your body the space and time to regenerate new energy.
  3. Manage—this is a function of your lifestyle and understanding all the essential aspects of lifestyle that impact your energy and applying them effectively.

Human performance is largely influenced by how much energy the organism has to work with, so the common thread of all aspects of lifestyle is the harnessing—sourcing and producing and, ultimately, the management of energy.

And here’s the thing: you need to do that, accelerate the recovery of energy, deliberately and proactively, and other than sleep, most of us are not used to doing this. We have little experience being proactive about energy and its management; we tend to take energy for granted, manage it reactively, or talk about how much “mojo” we have until we don’t. And few health and human performance practitioners know much about energy or can’t advise you on it.

Today, given the relentless demands we all face on our energy to be productive, we must pay attention to ensuring that our body is functioning and performing well.

As I’ve talked about in prior articles, performance needs to be redefined as a lifestyle and no longer confused with productivity or as an outcome only.

Harnessing energy in a Performance Lifestyle’s core is undoubtedly the key to productivity and quality of life. Everything you do in your life and if you will do it well depends on it.
