First Day at the Monkey Bar Gym Intensive
PrintJohn Allen here, I’m up in Madison Wisconsin with Jonny Hinds my close friend and founder of the Monkey Bar Gym chain.
It’s late, we’re sitting here at his place, blogging about the days events; he’s blogging at the Jonny Hinds MBG 3 Training blog.
Check it out, Jon Hinds is a master trainer (Tony Robbins calls Jon to his house when he wants to learn… I could go on and on, but you’ll learn about Jon soon I’m sure, this dude has wings and is about as down to earth as it gets).
Jon lives a performance lifestyle (he’s also on the faculty) and shares how he eats, trains and restores every day. He also asks you to share what you are doing to improve how you eat each day. What you’re eating, what MBG workouts you like and more. Here’s his facebook page.
I’m super excited to be at this training, and hangin’ for a few days with Jon. Just today we were training the handstand and all kinds of exercises which Jon helps you progress to to being able to do most things you don’t even consider. I mean, who thinks of doing a handstand at virtually any age?
If you ever get a chance to come to Madison, do it. I will keep you posted on future opportunities. or at other MBG locations.
Enjoy the pictures below.
First a brief video as I entered the Gymnasium.
Here are some pictures:
This first one was a combo, green and red grapes, strawberries, dates, walnuts, hemp seeds, bananas, almonds and a small scoop of Source of Life for a really taste breakfast!
This is how we started the day with a nutrient rich meal.
Let the Training Begin:
One of Jonny’s students getting the warm up. Jon’s also a a Brazilian Jujitsu trainer so, having a little fun Jujitsu style.
So the real warm was a yoga sequence.
Then we got into a basic progression into doing pull ups with maximum form. Started with 60 Degree and 90 Degree Chin Up with a a Jungle Gym.
And this was just the start!

Cliff Hangers, basically scaling these two parallel bars. Named after Sylvester Stallone’s movie “Cliffhanger” when he was scaling the rocks.
Push up training. Believe it or not most people do not know how to do a push up and this is a room full of trainers all getting MBG certified! Incredible what happens when you do them right and when you do them wrong over many years. I learned this first hand.
Last one for tonight, I’ll upload pictures on the handstand tomorrow. But part of what makes this training so amazing is the feedback you get. MBG is a an old school, heal em’ don’t hurt em’ training facility. You actually get fit and health, vs fit and injured which happens at so many gyms. At the Monkey Bar you learn how to do things right and great results follow correct action.
Another day in the lifestyle
