And you thought it was about “discipline”….
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on April 5, 2008 – 5:30 pmThis past week, I was talking with a number of Performance Lifestyle community members (by phone) about eating for health, higher performance and natural weight loss.
As usual, someone asked, "How do you stay so disciplined", as if it was hard to eat a better quality d.iet.
I smiled and thought to myself, this person needs to get free of the nutrient poor way of eating AND "thinking". I’m not sure what keeps a person stuck more, nutrient poor eating, or thinking.
How we eat is a major influencer on how we think, because how we think about food, is largely based on the results we experience.
When you eat nutrient poor, you are going to think poorly about food.
Case in point:
I eat a nutrient rich di.et. That means, I eat a diet comprised of foods that give my body all of the nutrients it needs to maintain health and perform at a high level.
That also means I don’t eat much at all of those foods that fill my body up with stuff it doesn’t need, or want at this point.
Clear and simple…
What’s not so clear, are the reasons why eating the "nutrient rich" way requires virtually no discipline, meanwhile millions of people struggle to eat better and resort to eating less in order to shed the inevitable - excess pounds.
Here’s the reason why…
You will have little to no drive to eat those advertised-popular, addictive, drug-like foods that load your body up with stuff it doesn’t need, but at one point truly desired…
…you know the stuff that you’ll find abundant in nutrient poor foods - artificial sugar, saturated fat, caffeine and various other stimulants and waste products that found a way into your meal…
when…
…your body gets used to eating real clean, food. You know the foods that contain vitamins, minerals, water, fiber, real food carbohydrate, health - promoting protein, essentials fat, phytochemicals etc
… food without that crap that screws up your system.
At one point I truly desired the pseudo and junk foods that contained all that stuff, even though my intention was to eat better. That is probably your experience too.
Like you, I had been trained to eat those foods, my body craved them, especially when I stopped for a short period of time and experienced withdrawal.
My body "tolerated" them, but ultimately did not need or want them. It let me know this in no uncertain terms as I slowly stopped eating them and periodically tried to eat them again.
As timed passed and my body got clean because I was eating real food in ever tastier ways, my body would not let me eat unsuccessfully with unwanted consequences…
… my body wanted health and success, and so does yours.
It took time to get free of those foods, but at some point what I once resisted "give up" - (nutrient poor thinking) I simply "eliminated" - (nutrient rich thinking) for the primary reason that started this message…
… NOT because I am that disciplined and NOT because I gave up anything. I always maintain(ed) that I can/could eat anything I want.
Sure, I can stay focused like the best of them, but the truth is, when it comes to food, and addiction to stimulants that make you
feel high, (at least at first), I am just like everybody else - prone to addiction.
Oh the stories I could tell!
Besides the fact that I love the way I eat, look, feel and perform eating NutrientRich; the reason I appear so disciplined, is…
PAIN AVOIDANCE!
I feel like such shit when I eat poor quality food, that it just isn’t worth it.
Go to www.NutrientRich.com to see a video where I talk about this on Comcast.
It’s about time this becomes one of the topics of conversation. I am not alone.
I hear the same thing from just about everyone I talk to that cleans up their diet. They too are not that disciplined. Like me, they just aren’t in pain and feeling like crap.
Once you start eating nutrient rich foods, it eventually becomes very hard to go back to eating nutrient poor…
… your desire changes.
My next post will be about eating the way you desire… it’s the only way to eat successfully.

Obesity Trends - Hand in Hand With Overwhelm and Exhaustion
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on January 30, 2008 – 12:21 pmThis graphic above illustrates the downward trend on a population basis and it makes the point that the weight loss industry is not working. Eating less of foods that don’t serve you and exercising a fatigued body even more does not work. You will not see success and any illusion of success will be short-lived.
How you look, feel and perform ongoing are the direct result of your lifestyle, not the result of "eat-less" diets or "exercise-more" workout programs created for the express purpose of losing weight. There are many different factors that go into this lifestyle and contribute to the “downward trend”.
Looking, feeling and performing better is about avoiding becoming overwhelmed, exhausted and overweight. The only way to do that successfully is to manage your energy, including the quality of the food you eat and your activity levels in the process of achieving your goals. That’s means live athletically!
When it comes to your weight, it comes down to your lifestyle and until your lifestyle reinforces your both your health and success, you will find yourself in an extended stay on the downward trend, wondering how to turn it around with the latest weight loss program.

The Real Problem - Why are we getting overweight when we spend $500B on Weight Loss Products?
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on January 30, 2008 – 12:12 pmWhat is the real problem? Most of us are not managing our energy well. We are overwhelmed, caught up and overcommitted and this excessive energy expenditure promotes the downward trend – exhaustion, over consumption, physical inactivity and being overweight.
The addictive, stimulating food and drinks all around then purport to give us more energy and they don’t. Over stimulation by its very nature is exhausting. These nutrient-poor foods then drive us to over consume in an effort to get our nutrient needs met and it doesn’t happen. Our now overwhelmed and exhausted bodies are no condition to be active. And the answer is eating less and exercising more? You could not assemble a better trap for staying stuck.
Countless weight loss programs are sold as lifestyles and what’s really being said is, “lose weight for life” and of course it just doesn’t happen. Human beings are not robots, we want the natural experience of life and living on a weight loss program is not natural. It’s not that these weight loss solutions don’t or won’t work; it is that they don’t work alone, forever or in some cases, at all.
And so the cycle continues…
Few solutions address the real problem; your lifestyle – why you are tired and overeating, and physically inactive to begin with and the downward trend stays in play. It is this trend, complicated by all the solutions that do not solve the problem that give consistent rise to obesity statistics, even though we spend billions of dollars per year on weight loss.

Improve the Effectiveness of Any Weight Loss or Training Program
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on September 18, 2007 – 9:48 pmThere are three types of people who benefit greatly by Performance Lifestyle Training.
- That person, who has been living on a downward trend (overwhelm, exhaustion and overweight) for far too long and wants to learn how to turn it around for good.
- The person, who is trying to lose weight, may be on a weight loss program and looking to burn fat, who wants to reinforce and "ensure" their success.
- The person, who is already looking, feeling and performing well, but wants even better results, greater mastery and the confidence that comes with it to achieve bigger goals.
Note: If you are training for competitions, sporting events etc, Performance Lifestyle Training will serve you well, but events like that also require more regimented training and conditioning protocols. Sports specific training is outside the scope of the Performance Lifestyle Training.
I talk a lot about losing the need to lose weight and I beat up on weight loss programs often simply because so many of them keep you stuck chasing your tail with your focus in the wrong areas, but the truth is there is a time when focusing on weight loss is important and you want to learn how to do so in a healthy, sustainable way.
The people who know how to do that, are the people whom I see as true experts.
So in the next Performance Lifestyle Training, I’m going to include breakout sessions with pro’s like Kevin Gianni, Scott Tousignant, Rob Poulos, and Scott Colby… not only do these guys know how to live awesome, promote unstoppable fat loss, rev up your fat burning furnace, and give your body a great makeover, they know how to do it right.
I look forward to introducing you to them, if you don’t know them. Together we are launching the Lifestyle Revolution.
Performance Lifestyle Training details coming next week. Remember it will be limited to only 50 People, so don’t delay once we release details.

Obesity Rates Climbing Because We Don’t Understand the Real Problem
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on August 29, 2007 – 6:19 pmAnother day, another round of obesity statistics flying around the Internet, this time in my home state. I’ve never seen NJ ever singled out for obesity rates.
Why is this happening?
Well it’s because we don’t understand the real problem… the downward energy trend.
Eating less and exercising more don’t solve this problem they make life harder. It’s no wonder most people don’t do it and millions of attempts at "sticking with the program" just fail. Human beings don’t like to stick to programs.
All the discussion about fat loss and weight loss are great, but if you don’t have a lifestyle reinforcing your health and success, you have a problem will continue to chase your tail.

Performance Lifestyle. What is it?
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on August 15, 2007 – 11:00 amPart 1 of 5
As you’ve learned, Performance Lifestyle is not an addiction to performing for the wrong reasons. So let’s begin talking about what Performance Lifestyle is.
For starters, you’ll here me talking about Performing "well" often… that’s a very different term.
After years of promoting health and fitness information, addressing the common problems we suffer, from low energy, to weight issues and poor health, and seeing people basically stay on the same merry go round, despite short-term success, I began to realize there was something missing…
…a central message that would explain why only a small segment of the population (3% or so) stays on top of their game, looking, feeling and performing "well" and achieving their goals successfully. Meanwhile, the larger majority of the population who may also be succeeding, financially etc, struggles with diet and weight issues, long-term health and well being issues and above all, low energy.
That central message is Performance Lifestyle.
You’d have to be living under a rock not to be seeing (or experiencing) all the buzz about "overwhelm", "multi tasking" and its impact on our performance, "how the pace of life has sped up" and our quality of life is deteriorating, how "obesity and disease rates are climbing", and last but certainly not least, how "we’re so exhausted, we don’t have enough energy left over for our sex lives…" -
Now that is a problem!
The pace of life (if you’re all caught up) is kicking our asses and the way we’re responding to the stress is not making matters better. Yes …we’re not getting enough sleep, eating junk food, and physically inactive. But for starters, it’s the perfect environment for performance addiction to get worse and that’s the villian in this story.
The solutions have been, "Reduce stress, get more sleep, eat less and exercise more". Yeah, yeah, yeah… yeah. Doing these things on purpose may help you get healthy "er", but unless you arrive there in a normal and natural way, all of these things (which are outcomes), can be traps of epic proportions, guaranteed to keep you chasing your tail.
But you already know that don’t you? Maybe not.
People living Performance Lifestyle’s, whom we call "Healthy High Achievers", don’t buy into impotent solutions. They see things very differently.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of 5

Performance Lifestyle: The Missing Link
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on July 22, 2007 – 10:38 amWhat gives the Performance Lifestyle its unity and power? It’s about achieving your goals, successfully. It’s what we’re all driven to do.
The key is to expand your idea of what "successfully" means. This is what Performance Lifestyle Training offers; an understanding of the "missing link" between where you are and your vision for where you want to be and how to get their sucessfully.
After working with thousands of people, it’s clear we need to learn how to achieve our goals in life and business without sacrificing our health and fitness. We’re going to do that together by learning the never-before-assembled lifestyle success skills and strategies of Healthy High Achievers. Including but not limited to, athletes and those whom we admire for how much they accomplish and achieve, while looking, feeling and performing incredibly well.
Performance Lifestyle training does not focus you on losing weight or even getting fit. These are two results, but not the primary focus when it comes to your lifestyle working for you and the acheivement of your goals.
Overweight and out of shape are symptoms of a lifestyle gone awry; that’s not working for you, that’s out of balance and off course. And if you think diet and exercise alone will solve the problem, you’ll come up short, just like millions of people are right now heroically eating less and exercising more to deal with symtoms of a problem they don’t understand.
The missing link between where you are and where you want to be is "your lifestyle". I know that may sound cliche, but it’s nonetheless effective. We have not been trained to understand what it means to have a successful lifestyle, which we need, to acheive our goals successfully. We have been trained, but our training has our thinking askew.
In the upcoming "Age of Achievement" Manifesto you’re going to learn about the missing link, your lifestyle, and a nuance about lifestyle that’s going to change your life, body, even your business for the better!
Too many people attempt to achieve their goals in ways that are unhealthy, and because they are unhealthy they are unable to achieve their goals. They simply can’t perform. And if they do, it comes at such a cost, they can’t recover. They pay with their life. Performance Lifestye changes this, focused on your health AND success.
We have gone to great lengths to bring the defacto lifestyle success skills and strategies together in the Performance Lifestyle Formula. Get ready to become a Healthy High Achiever and unleash the full potential of your lifestyle to look, feel and perform beter and achieve your goals successfully.
Yes, you will lose weight and look great, but trumping both of those, you will gain the energy you need, to succeed.

Weight Loss is Simple When You Solve The Problem
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on July 10, 2007 – 5:25 pmYes, it is.
It takes time, like anything else, but it is simple. The problem is, most people and I mean the majority of people don’t understand the problem. That’s why they have so much trouble solving it.
In today’s day and age, "solutions" are often not solutions to a problem.
Take the problem of weight loss. Fat Loss, weight loss, losing weight… what ever you want to call it, is of course, not the problem but an important thing to consider as the symptom. There are many solutions to the problem of how to lose weight, but these solutions almost never solve the problem. They may be dealing with one of the consequences of poor lifestyle, like eating poorly or lack of exercise, but they still don’t solve the problem.
Lack of exercise and eating poorly are part of the problem, but not the problem.
How you manage your energy is a big missing piece of the problem and it goes even deeper than that. By the way, if you think Personal Energy Management is "woo woo" or somthing you can’t grasp at the moment, it’s no wonder you "may" be suffering from the overweight condition. This is what it’s all about and I’m not just talking about sleep.
Do you want to solve the problem of being overweight? Then you’ve got to understand lifestyle. Lifestyle Training is the new weight loss program, because it actually solves the problem.

Do you need Lifestyle Coaching or a Weight Loss Program?
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on July 5, 2007 – 1:25 pmThere is a big difference between the two.
Lifestyle coaching deals with the reality of your life situation and the causes of why you are living in such a way that promotes the overweight condition (the most obvious symptom), and a weight loss program see’s the consequences as "the cause" and attempts to solve the symptom without getting to the root of the problem.
Food and fitness are NOT the root of the problem!
In many respects, overeating nutrient poor foods, and lack of physical activity are themselves symptoms of the real problem, which is overwhelm and exhaustion. Even overwhelm and exhaustion are symptoms of an deeper problem. That’s what you need to discover and that’s what Life / Lifestyle coaching and training is all about and Performance Lifestyle Training and Group Coaching get’s to this level.
In today’s day and age, we all need lifestyle coaching and lifestyle training, not weight loss programs. Permanent fat loss is a direct result of life style, not a diet program, which is not a lifestyle, even though living with that mindset is becoming a lifestyle for many people; an unsuccessful one. It’s all about your mindset.
This is a big distinction to make.
Do you think it’s hard dealing with the real problem? No, it’s simply, not always easy but powerful and effective. Any other solution is a temporary and lingering band aid. You need to coordinate all aspects of your lifestyle to get the outcomes that you want, including but not limited to, food and fitness.
This is Performance Lifestyle…

Lose the need to lose weight
Written by John Allen Mollenhauer "JAM" on July 4, 2007 – 10:31 amDo you want to lose the need to lose weight?
Are you aware that your lifestyle is either working for you or against you every minute of the day?
Most people are not aware of this, content to know that they worked out or made a better food choice (both are which are great) but don’t begin to touch the surface of what’s possible for you. Don’t feel bad if this is you, most of us, don’t have a broad enough concept beyond eating better (not Less) and exercising more, associated to lifestyle, to take full advantage of the power they really have.
Healthy high achievers do.
Becuase they do, they are able to unleash the full potential of their lifestyle to look, feel and perform better, meanwhile most other people sit and wonder, "how the heck do they do it?" It’s what you don’t see that makes the difference.
Unleashing the full potential of your Lifestyle is the missing link that makes the difference between suffering from the diet, weight and the long term health issues that so many people struggle with, and looking feeling and performing the way you want to.
Get ready to lose the need to lose weight. It’s not that you’ll never want to take off a few pounds here and there… weight fluctuates, it’s a fact of life and it’s easy to do in a healthy way. I’m talking about not having to lose significant amounts of weight and go through body transformation programs over and over again.
This can become a thing of the past when you understand Performance Lifestyle.
I want to completely shift your paradigm here, not just a little bit, but a lot a bit! Read Unleash the Full Potential of Your Lifestyle then leave a comment.
